Swann helped experienced mining professional Timothy Galusky secure his latest role as Project Director at Norge Mining. We spoke to him about his new role and working with the Swann team led by Catherine Plowdon.

Congratulations on the new role, Tim. Can you tell us about your experience working with Swann

Swann helped me immensely throughout the recruitment process, which took a long time due first to Covid, and then the war in Ukraine. I think we first spoke in August 2021, so the whole process took over a year. But you stayed in touch and kept me informed and engaged throughout the process.

From the initial engagement onwards, it’s been a great experience. Before we even started, you checked my interest in finding out more about the opportunity. In my experience, this is rare, but it avoids wasting my time and the recruiters’. If someone has just started a new role, or is happy where they are, they’re unlikely to want to move, so I was grateful that you checked first.

Even though there are limits on what can be shared about a position or the company involved in the early stages, Catherine was always forthcoming with what she could ethically share, so I could work out if I was interested and if I was a good match for the opportunity.

In fact, Swann had spoken to me about another role before. Because we were able to have an open conversation, it became clear that the company was after a different kind of person, and I was able to rule myself out.

Swann helped me immensely throughout the recruitment process. From the initial engagement onwards, it’s been a great experience. You were always interested in ensuring a good fit for me, and for the company. You don’t always get that.

Catherine was methodical, transparent, and respectful of the boundaries. I never needed to chase information. She was proactive in providing everything I needed, and I felt informed and comfortable throughout. When Catherine was on vacation, there was no lack of continuity. She ensured one of her colleagues was available in her absence, and they ensured the process continued fluidly.

At one point, it looked like I hadn’t been successful, and the company was considering another candidate. Catherine stuck with me and encouraged me to remain positive. Sure enough, a week later, the company called back and made me an offer.

What distinguishes Swann from other firms you have worked with?

That early transparency and forthrightness about what could be shared was a refreshing change. The engagement and positive support throughout the process were also very gratefully received.

Swann was always interested in ensuring a good fit for me, and for the company. You don’t always get that from recruiters. Some only seem to be interested in getting the commission and moving on to the next role, but I never felt that with Swann.

When any recruitment needs come up in future, I will definitely have Swann at the top of my list.

Would you recommend Swann to your friends and colleagues?

I already have.
