Women In Mining
Website text Janet Bewsey, a Senior Associate at Swann’s London office, was a recent participant at the Annual Education Event to promote career paths in the Natural Resource industry to young female undergraduates.
The event seeks to facilitate the participation of young female undergraduates studying mining-related disciplines to enter the Mining industry. A panel discussion was also held on the topic ‘How to use a mining-related education to enter into the Law and Investment fields’. Janet took the opportunity to promote career paths in Environmental Science and Sustainability; a field of particular importance in Swann’s London office.
Keynote speakers included:
• Marta Soler – Investment Executive, Klesch Group.
• Lauren Vopni – Stakeholder Relations Manager, De Beers Group.
• Angelica Phillips – Managing Director, ANDN Consulting
• Kay Moon – Managing Associate, Linklaters.
Moderated by Camborne School of Mines’ Professor in Applied Mineralogy, Frances Wall, the event attracted approximately 30 young undergraduates.
Part of WIM (UK)’s role is to speak for women in the mining sector, informing industry participants and decision-makers of the challenges and opportunities women are finding in pursuing careers in mining companies and other mining-related businesses: this entails participating in market meetings and industry bodies and constantly increasing the visibility of our organisation.
